It was a fun morning for all the titos and titas of Manila (plus the titos and titas at heart) with today’s guests on The Morning Rush, Ogie Alcasid and Ian Veneracion! Ogie and Ian, a.k.a. The Kilabotitos joined Chico, Hazel, Markki, and Rica to talk about their upcoming online concert: Virtually Yours, Kilabotitos.

First things first: What exactly is a kilabotito? Ian explained, “Sabi nila, kami daw ang kilabot ng mga titas.” (“And some titos!” Chico added.) The show isn’t only for your titas, though! These two are going to take the audience on a nostalgic musical journey that can be enjoyed by people of all ages.

Nakakatawa siya. Ang saya niya. It’s like two aging men who went on a journey with music and laughter, and just had fun,” Ogie said of the concert experience. He says that even though the music will come from the era he grew up in, he knows that there are plenty of younger viewers who enjoy 80s music and “tito jokes,” which we’ll be seeing a lot of during the show.

Ian added, “May mga throwback kami na moments. It’s a flow na parang, hindi siya yung tugtugan lang. There’s pagka-sitcom type. May flow, may story.” While younger audiences will appreciate the show, those who grew up in their generation will definitely resonate with it.

The concert was actually scheduled for March 2020 – Ian and Ogie were even scheduled to guest with TMR live at the station around this time last year – but since that was cancelled, they’ve decided to push through with it virtually a year later. It’s unfortunate, of course, but it gave them the time to go back and make adjustments to their setlist, spiels, and musical arrangements. “Maganda kasi nabusisi siya,” Ian said.

The Kilabotitos also opted for a pre-recorded concert over a live broadcast to avoid technical difficulties and delays. They did record the whole show in one take, though, and treated it as if it were a real concert with an audience. Less time consuming, plus more authentic!

When Hazel asked who Ogie and Ian would choose if they could recruit any artist to join the Kilabotitos group, Ogie answered, “For me the original titos were like, si Rico J. Puno, ‘di ba? And he would probably fit the mold, because he doesn’t really take himself seriously. Though, he is taken seriously. He’s an icon.” Though Rico J. Puno has passed, Ogie thinks he would’ve been the perfect addition.

“I would want to have a duet with Ric Segreto,” Ian answered. “I grew up listening to that type of music.” They also agreed that if they were to choose from international artists, Daryl Hall (of Hall and Oates) and Kenny Loggins would be great Kilabotitos. Just imagine the music and fun shows that would come out of a group like that! (If we may suggest: Chico Garcia for the Kilabotitos, too?)

Before leaving, they invited everyone watching to see the concert for a fun time. “You’re gonna enjoy this! It’s a different treat. The flow, the music, the laughter,” Ian said. “Makulit! It’s so relaxed, and chill, and good vibes, so I hope all of you get to watch it. We’ll see you March 26!”

“I know a lot of things are going around, and ano ba naman yung sa loob ng dalawang oras, medyo mag chill tayo?” Ogie added, saying that this show would be the perfect time to pour yourself a drink and unwind on a Friday night. “This is really something new that we’re doing here, but we took the risk, and we wanted to do it because we felt that a lot of people need entertainment.”

Concert talk aside, The Morning Rush had a great laugh joking with Ogie and Ian about online dating, revealing Chico’s secrets, and more! Oh, and one last thing: Ian Veneracion saying “Are you lost, baby girl?” is something we never knew we needed. You’ll have to watch the full interview to see what we mean!

Virtually Yours, Kilabotitos is streaming worldwide on March 26, 8:00 PM and March 27, 11:30 AM PHT. You can buy tickets now via KTX.PH or iWantTFC.
