It was an awesome Friday evening for JC and Ria on The Daily Survey as they were joined by singer-songwriter-producer Keshi

The two welcomed Keshi on the show, who’s been gaining a lot of buzz for his awesome performance on the Asia Rising Forever online music fest just the day before. If you haven’t checked out his cover of BROCKHAMPTON’s “Sugar” from the online concert yet, you should definitely go check that out!

Keshi gave props to JC and Ria for being such great hype men as they were introducing him – it was hard not to be that excited, especially cause tons of his Filipino fans were tuned in! The Houston-based musician gave a little intro as well for the listeners who were just getting to know him. He explained that “Keshi” started out as just an anonymous username on Soundcloud based on a nickname from a childhood friend. His name is actually Casey!

Talking about his music style or genre, Keshi said, “I make some sort of ‘sadboi’ music that kind of bangs at the same time. So you’re kinda crying in the club…” (Yeah, we know just what you mean, and we love the vibe) For new listeners, Keshi says his song ‘2 soon’ is a great place to start. When he wrote the song, it was very different from anything else he’d made, and initially he was afraid that listeners wouldn’t be into it. “I didn’t wanna break their expectations. So I was almost about to not put it out, which would’ve been awful right?”

But turns out, everyone’s reaction to ‘2 soon’ was the “resounding yes” Keshi needed to pursue music in this style. Success! “I don’t wanna box myself in a particular genre. If you think that the only thing I make is sad music, you’ll be excited to hear the next record!” Ooh, looks like something’s in store for Keshi fans!

Can confirm: that next record is definitely on its way, and it’s halfway done! “I’m really excited to show what you guys what I’ve been working on. I’m really, genuinely proud of what I’ve written so far.” Keshi told the listeners. Coming soon: Keshi’s next single and a music video! We’re excited to listen to and watch what he’s coming up with!

And it looks like it’s not just new music in Keshi’s future! Did you know that Keshi is engaged?! Yup, sorry to everyone who’s been praying he’d fall in love with you. :( Keshi is happily taken and has been engaged since November! JC took the opportunity to ask, “Will you celebrate your honeymoon here with a concert hopefully?” Sadly, there aren’t any Manila tour plans right now, but Keshi did say “Of course, I have to go and visit the Philippines and say hi to my fans!” (We think Ria will be first in line)

Ria and JC also talked to Keshi about his appearance on the recent Asia Rising Forever online music fest by 88rising, which happened last May 6. Keshi was excited and honored to be included in the lineup, saying that he started in music around the same time they did. “Of course, I was very aware of what 88rising was doing; it’s hard not to, because it was such a movement when it started.” And Rich Brian? Yeah, those two are friends now. “He texts me now and it’s a little bit surreal. He’s a really sweet dude!” Imagine a Rich Brian and Keshi collab – um, yes please! Someone make it happen!

But there is one artist that Keshi dreams of doing a collab with – John Mayer. “He’s my hero, and the person who got me started songwriting.” Aww, we love that! Fingers crossed that Keshi gets to meet his inspiration soon, and that they get to work together.

During The Daily Survey, Keshi also answered a couple of fan questions and gave his message to everyone going through this pandemic around the world. Watch the full interview on our Facebook page:
