The Morning Rush started off the long weekend last April 9 with lots of smiles as they were joined by Megan Young and Mikael Daez!
The (super cute and fresh) newlyweds joined Chico, Hazel, Markki, and Rica on the show’s Facebook live via video call, with Chico saying that this was the “new thing” considering the quarantine situation.
Megan and Mikael are known to be a couple that loves online gaming, and Mikael explained that that’s exactly one of the things they’ve been doing to keep themselves occupied lately. While Markki encouraged gaming, saying it’s been said to boost mental health at a time like this, Rica admitted “I only play one game! It’s opening my fridge door and then closing it…”
If you’re not a gamer and you want some video game recommendations, Megan said she loves to play games that relax her like Stardew Valley, and most recently Animal Crossing! She loves to immerse herself in these games after a tough day, or at times when the news is heavy to handle.
Gaming talk aside, TMR also congratulated the two on their recent wedding! The couple got married in January this year, and according to Chico, it was one of the best weddings he’s ever seen. It was that beautiful! “How is it that you’re spending your honeymoon in quarantine?” Chico asked them.
Luckily, they didn’t make any travel plans to immediately celebrate their honeymoon – no cancelled trips here! “We’ve already had the opportunity to travel so much over the past 10 years, so we decided that whatever the next trip is going to be, let that be the honeymoon,” Mikael explained. “But there won’t be any extravagant spending on a particular moment or trip… And then quarantine happened!”
As for being quarantined together as a newlywed couple, it’s been an opportunity for Megan and Mikael to learn even more about each other. It’s something that not all couples can get through, but the dynamic between these two just works!
Rica asked them if they’ve tried any of the online quarantine trends, and now we know Megan’s newest obsession: Dalgona Coffee! “I made it for FOUR DAYS STRAIGHT. It’s actually pretty fun to make!” (Markki, on the other hand, admitted that his attempt at the coffee trend was unsuccessful… It’s okay, Markki!) On a regular day though, the couple gets their caffeine fix with a pour over set-up at home. “It’s so therapeutic for the both of us! It calms our nerves, just like gaming,” Megan told TMR. Chico shared the coffee love saying, “Coffee for me is third in line [for survival] after oxygen and food.”
The topic then went to the state of the entertainment industry, and how the current situation is affecting people’s work. Megan and Mikael showed their concern for all the production workers who are affected by ‘no work, no pay. “I don’t think production will start again any time soon, to be honest,” Mikael said, “I don’t think it’s an essential industry at the moment… There are more important industries that have to be restarted before us.”
“It’s really sad,” Megan continued. “A lot of people have to rely on going to work to earn money.” This topic is something the two have definitely discussed between themselves as well. They’ve even considered getting on Tiktok as something they can explore as online content creators themselves!
Listeners tuned in to the livestream also sent in their questions for the couple; one person asked Megan, a.k.a. Miss World 2013, how beauty pageants could possibly be affected by the COVID-19 crisis. Hubby chimed in and asked her, “If you had to run a pageant right now, is it possible to do it through Zoom? It seems possible!” They all laughed and talked about the possibility of changing into their costumes, doing a Q&A, and walking the runway on an online beauty pageant.
“It’s tough kasi the girls have been preparing for these pageants for months, or years, even!” Megan said. “But of course, we wanna put our health at the front during these times.” She’s right, staying healthy is a priority! (Although Chico pointed out that he was disappointed she didn’t begin her answer with, “Thank you for that wonderful question!”)
So, what’s the first thing Mikael and Megan are looking forward to doing when quarantine is lifted? Mikael can’t wait to have a cappuccino at his favorite coffee shop in Maginhawa. As for travel, the couple will probably avoid it for the rest of the year, even if it’s allowed again soon. “As painful as it may be, iba pa rin yung satisfaction when you hold out on something, then get to do if after a long time,” they said. Megan also proposed prioritizing local travel, since plenty of small businesses are affected by the current lockdown. Let’s support our own!
But while the two are still stuck at home, just like plenty of us, they’ll continue their daily routine of eating healthy, playing Ragnarok, and taking care of Soba, their adorable toy poodle.
