A super fan
Hazel started out as a Radio1 student jock before being an official one. She recalls the moments when she was still an avid RX listener, “My relationship with RX has been longer because I was such a listener, I was such a fan! When I was in high school, I would actually visit the station in my school uniform and just talk to the jocks.” Oh, how the tables have turned for this one! It is now Hazel's turn to be the jock that gets visited and admired by listeners!

From sports to music
Before dabbling in the radio industry and playing all kinds of music, Hazel used to be a UAAP courtside reporter for a while. The funny thing is, Hazel became a student jock and a courtside reporter at the same time! Even finding out that she landed the courtside reporter gig while she was doing her Radio1 duties. Hazel played both fields during her stint on both careers but stepped out a bit as a student jock because she had to focus more on her courtside reporter gig. But coming back to the station again, Hazel realizes that she does want to pursue radio more! We guess being on RX was fate for Hazel!

“It felt amazing! Just because you’re so full of ideas. And as a listener, you would have all these things in your head like ‘Oh, when I become a jock I wanna do this! I wanna do that!’” Her partnership with DJ Tom was an experience because this is where she learned and gained knowledge from! “Boarding with Tom, that was so interesting because I used to call Tom on the phone.” There used to be a portion on Tom’s show where listeners could give love advice and Hazel would call up to give advice. DJ Tom was even one of the people who encouraged Hazel to join Radio1 just because of Hazel’s love for chat! “He was probably sick of me calling all the time at that point!” No, Hazel. DJ Tom definitely just saw the potential in you!
In her early days, Hazel was known as Nurse Hazelnut Latte, the nurse of DJ Tom’s on-air persona Dr. Love when The Late Night Clinic was still on air. She was also in several shows throughout her career, boarding on Hip26 and being a pinch hitter for available shows in different time slots. Hazel also hosted various shows after being with DJ Tom, from Playtime, Wild x Wicked, Happy Hour and of course, her current show The Morning Rush!
Work that feels like play
“Having a job that doesn’t feel like work.” Coming in to play music and just talk are Hazel’s favorite things about being an RX jock! “Honestly, it’s the best! It’s really the job itself.” Interviewing a lot of artists, celebrities and meeting lifelong friends through the job are also a plus in Hazel’s book. Her current and even former partners are still great friends of hers. Hazel definitely wouldn’t have it any other way!
Hazel has a lot of memorable moments throughout her career as an RX jock. But the one that was the most interesting for her was seeing the kids who used to listen to her back in the day would go on and now be successful in their lives. It makes Hazel think how fast life can be! No worries, Hazel. You’ll always be forever young! Just like Chico!
The only worry Hazel had was cleaning up her condo right away when TMR switched to video live streams during the pandemic. Hazel’s camera angle has pros and cons - getting good lighting but also having her entire first floor seen on the camera! But having her place in order did not become a huge problem as Hazel got the job done as everything was manageable for her and of course, she’s still grateful as ever as they still get to do what they love to do, on air and even online where they get to interact on a more authentic level with the listeners and Rushers!
“You don’t feel like you age when you work here, mostly because you stay young.” Hazel loves a good challenge! And one of the challenges of being in the industry, especially being a part of RX for a long time and seeing the world change and evolve, is by coming up with new ideas and keeping up with the times.
Being Hazel Hottie
We know Hazel as someone who’s fierce yet nice. She has that spicy, saucy side but she’s also bursting with sweetness and full of life! Hazel makes every moment on air entertaining with her quick-witted remarks, laughter that screams happiness and her love for Liza Vanderpump and Roger Federer. She’s so open to her listeners that they feel a personal connection towards her! That’s just Hazel Hottie for you, Monsters!
