As part of his ‘Between Albums Tour,’ American singer-songwriter Lauv made his PH comeback show last September! The Monster got a chance to sit down with him for a one-on-one interview, and boy, did we go ‘All Out’ – from his rollercoaster of a music journey to some random fun questions, Rico made sure to talk to him about it all.

Lauv’s Manila show this year is a big one: it is his first one at the Mall of Asia Arena. Lauv was last in Manila and Cebu in May 2019 for his first solo concert here, held at the Big Dome and at the Waterfront Hotel in Cebu. Prior to this, he has also performed at select malls in Metro Manila and at the Wanderland Music & Arts Festival. He truly has come a long way!

The ‘I Like Me Better’ singer’s journey, though, is not only reflected in the sizes of the stages he conquers but also in his music and songwriting process. “I feel like I’m getting back to why I started making music in the first place. Like, I feel like for a few years, it was so insane [and] I kinda lost myself to it a little bit. I went through some ups and downs — a lot of downs mentally and emotionally,” Lauv shares.

“Now I just feel like I’m in a happy place where I’m kinda like back in college or in high school making music again for the first time, when everything was possible and you don’t know what’s gonna happen. I love that feeling.”

When asked about what’s harder to write between sad and happy songs, he says: “These days, it’s sad songs [that are harder to write.] ‘Cause honestly I’ve been in a ‘happy song’ place.” And his latest tracks ‘Crush’ with Bella Poarch, ‘Love You Like That,’ and ‘Steal The Show’ from the official soundtrack of Disney Pixar film “Elemental” are a testament to that! Sounding so much brighter both in terms of melody and lyrics, one can tell that Lauv is definitely coming from a happier place compared to his preceding releases.

Rico also talked to Lauv about his biggest influences, the meaning of his tattoos, and even some love advice. Watch his full interview here:
