Meet our president, Sir Chito Barreiro

Anniv Article - Sir Chito

Luis Mari V. Barreiro – or as the Monster staff knows him, Sir Chito – became the president of the station in 1992. Back then, Sir Chito was part of the RX sales team, until he was tasked to take the place of then president Sir Jun Barreiro.

Sir Chito was only thirty years old at the time! Even younger than some of the staff under him. But since had experience with marketing RX, he stepped it up even more to show that he was more than capable of being the president. And to this day, his management skills have proven to help the Monster keep growing and thriving in a great work environment!

How the Monster powered through the pandemic

When the pandemic hit in March 2020, several businesses were affected – RX included. “I couldn’t believe it,” Sir Chito said. “That they would lock down. So I said, they won’t do that, because if they do that, the economy will really suffer.” It became a period of major adjustment for the Monster team, in order to make sure the listeners would stay entertained and informed during a trying time. But the team proved that they’ve got what it takes to stay on the air!

Sir Chito commended everyone’s efforts, saying, “What’s good about it is the staff, you know, they’re willing to do anything and everything.” Working together, the DJs and technicians found ways to broadcast whether at home or at the station, while the rest of the staff kept other departments up and running at home as well. “If you tell them to just stay at home but still be productive, you don’t hear any complaints. So that’s what we like about the staff, and even the DJs!”

Everyone’s fave morning program, The Morning Rush, brought their iconic Top 10 to livestreaming, allowing them to be more interactive with listeners on Facebook. All Out’s celebrity guests didn’t stop – and in fact, became more frequent, with celebrities joining the show not only on FANtastic Fridays, but all week long. DJ Tom and DJ McCoy made weekends at home feel like a party during Remix Fridays. The Concert Series continued as artists treated us to performances recorded in their own bubbles. We even launched a new segment, Faces of Indieground, to give the spotlight to independent Filipino artists. And many more achievements the Monster pulled off amidst the pandemic! “What we’re proud of is we’re able to still broadcast as if it’s regular times,” Sir Chito said.

Lessons learned

For Sir Chito, the most important thing during the course of the pandemic is that he and everybody at RX is healthy. There were no life-threatening incidents that happened to anyone in the staff, DJs, and the bosses. Keeping oneself healthy and happy are all that matters right now.

The lessons Sir Chito took into heart in these circumstances are:

  • Keep safe. As long as everybody’s healthy, it’ll be all good.

  • Focus. Focus on what’s next, try to stay afloat for the sake of the RX staff and learn how to adapt to the situation.

Keeping the Monster spirit alive

The pandemic didn’t stop the Monster from keeping everyone’s spirits high through good music and fun times online! Sir Chito and the bosses also tried their hardest to not let the shortcomings affect the RX staff and DJs. Despite some struggles and working their way around the technicalities, RX still kept the show going!

Besides the usual TMR livestreams, online celebrity interviews and virtual performances, the RX Digital Team, with the help of the DJs and the bosses, kept the fun going on social media. The team stayed up to date with current internet trends and gave listeners interactive engagements on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and even TikTok! The parties that RX usually holds, like the Monster’s Ball, Singles Party and Anniversary Parties were also done virtually, which gave lucky listeners a chance to win invites and join the Monster Jocks on these online events. The interactions between the Monster and listeners continue on! RX couldn’t have risen through this pandemic without the support of all the listeners! Regardless of the challenges, RX would still come through just to keep listeners entertained and put smiles on their faces.

Sir Chito’s message to listeners who continue supporting RX especially at this time: “Really thank you so much to our listeners for your loyalty. Thank you so much for being with us through so many years! We will still try our best to keep you entertained, to keep you company, to keep you informed and we hope that you continue to stay with us and tell more people about how much fun it is to be in RX, to be listening to RX!”
